I first learned about the symbolism of the butterfly 36 hours after losing my son, as an organ donation doctor was pointing at a butterfly on my sweat-shirt and telling me something about transformation, rebirth, and freedom.

It felt like too much. It was the last thing I wanted to hear. I didn’t want transformation. I wanted my little boy with the man bun and big brown eyes, just the way he was. But deep down I knew that doctor was right. And I hated it.
What I didn’t know -- was that the butterfly would become a lifeline for me... and for so many others. It would bring so much hope, love, and connection. A reminder of what I now know to be true: An end is not the end. And love doesn't die with loss, it only transforms.
The butterfly is proof. She goes through total darkness—complete surrender—and still comes out extraordinary. This is our butterfly story.
